Standards Organizations

ESRI participates in several U.S. and international organizations for standards and interoperability that specialize in GIS, data, the Internet, and wireless communication. ESRI serves in leadership roles in many of the programs, initiatives, and specification efforts.

GeoConnections is a national partnership initiative working to build the Canadian Geospatial Data Infrastructure (CGDI), which will make Canada's geospatial databases, tools and services readily accessible on-line.

The Geography Network Canada portal is a peer discovery portal to the GeoConnections Discovery Portal. Search criteria specified in the Geography Network Canada Explorer can optionally be passed to the GeoConnections Discovery Portal.

OGC (Open GIS Consortium)

ESRI is a Principle member of OGC and active in the organization, including their Board of Directors, Planning and Technical Committees, and participation in testbeds, pilot projects, and specification products.

ESRI was lead author for the OGC Simple Features SQL standard submission and participated in the COM and CORBA submissions. ESRI is one of the first vendors to have OGC interfaces that have been through the OGC conformance testing program.

The following ESRI software products have been OGC certified:

ISO (International Standardization Organization)

ESRI has had a major development role in several of the standards developed by ISO Technical Committee (TC) 211 for Geographic Information and Geomatics Standards Development including:

  • ISO 19115 - Metadata
  • ISO 19125-1 - Simple Feature Access Part 1: Common Architecture
  • ISO 19125-2 - Simple Features Access Part 2: SQL Option

ESRI is implementing or investigating ways to comply with many of the ISO 19100 suite of standards as they develop.

In addition, ESRI technology is compliant with ISO/IEC 13249-3:1999-SQL Multimedia and Application Packages- Part 3: Spatial.
